Six Word Memoir

The present demands our best efforts.

I think mine ties in with some of them, in the sense that many of them are talking about change. Our country is in a hole right now, and we cannot just sit back and wait for things to get better.

Apples to Apples

I think there are many similarities in the two actions being taken, or that have been taken. I think it has a lot to do with whether the ends justify the means. Because in both events, I think that what each is trying to do could be easily considered to be a good thing to do, but what they have to do to get there, that is not the right thing to do. Because in the article, it said that they were just looking for a quick fix, and it might work, but it will only create another problem, so in that case the ends do not really justify the means.

Argentina

"If your intention...the means are endless." (pg. 37)

I think this passage represents the tone aspect of voice, because it represents how Ernesto expresses his attitude. I think the reader can draw an inference, that Che does not care as much about the means as he does the ends. He mostly cares about his destination point, not the check points along the way.

"I lost and plunged in....we saw abysses every second moment." (pg. 48-49)

I think this passage represents the imagery aspect of voice, because it brings about many of the senses, on this particular point in the journey. It talks about the feel of things (cold air, rocks), the sight (view, moon, in darkness) and sound (strange noises). So it incorporates many of the senses in this point of the journey, which is essentially the imagery aspect of voice.

Theme #5

You might be able to tell, that someone was expecting a baby. So they got all prepared, bought all the usual stuff that parents would for a baby, but then suddenly they didn't need any of their stuff. The baby probably died, for some unknown reason. The seller, may be trying to do a little more than just sell a pair of shoes. They are probably mostly trying to get people to feel sorry for them. Maybe, depending on the time period, they were probably poor, which is why they were selling the shoes in the first place. Quite a story, for just six words.

Essential Question

I want to be exactly the person that I want to be. I want to live comfortably, be happy with my job and family, and I want to be admired by people. That is the impact that I want to have on the world around me. I want to encourage people to grow up like I want to grow up. I don't necessarily want to be known nation- or world-wide, but by family and friends, and influence them. Most of all I just want to be happy, doing what I want to do.

TMD Introduction

The day I left, I thought I would have the time of my life. And I was, for a while. Out on the road, by myself, completely free to do whatever I wanted. There were people along the way, most of whom were good company. The more and more I was alone, the less and less I wanted to be alone. It was fun for a little while, but then I realized that I really didn't want to be alone anymore. I found that being in the presence of people, is what made life worth living. I also found that there is nothing lonelier than adventure.

Ideology

One thing that I really value is honesty and integrity. I think that it is always important to be honest, because it tells who you really are. If you always lie about what you do or how you feel or what you think, then no one knows what you are really like. Which is not fair to anyone or even yourself, since you should be able to express yourself, and let people know who you really are.

Che reaction #1

I was not necessarily surprised yesterday, however, when I first heard that Che became a doctor, and actually graduated from medical school. He must have been and even sounded smart. Since he did what he did, leading the revolution and everything, it didn't sound like someone as smart as he would do something like that.

Timeline

I think because Easy rider was all about hippies and since they were all about peace, love and freewill, and communal lifestyle, that may have something to do with The Motorcycle Diaries. Since Che seems like he may become a known communist, and a firm believer in capitalism, it also has to do with Das Kapital.

Bio and Intro post

I expect it to be very adventurous, since that is what was described by the daughter in both of the prefaces. She described her father as growing up in that kind of way and learning certain ways of life, at least that fit his beliefs. Also, I expect to get a better perspective from the author's point of view. I have read a diary book before, a couple actually, and I noticed that seeing what the author felt, and reading it with an actuality was very important, and was very different from other books in that it let the reader into the author's mind.

TMD Preface Comparison

I thought that all of those aspects were helpful to me in gaining a better, deeper understanding of the books we have read. I have always found the historical background of each book interesting, and without that you cant even begin to understand a book. I think you learn the social aspects as you read the book, but you also get a little understanding through the historical background. I think they all kind of tie in with each other, social, political, and historical, to help you get the deeper understanding of the book in which we strive to get.

Epiphany

An epiphany can be described as a moment of discovery or self realization which enlightens a character's character. It is usually when someone says something, or something happens that makes the character realize something about himself, or makes him do something based off of his epiphany. It usually alters the character in some way, shape, or form. It impacts one's life, in the fact that it is a moment of clarity or closure, and it is sometimes even known as a life changing experience.

Glen Beck video

Before I saw this video, I didn't really know who Che Guevara was. I saw his picture often, but I had no idea who he was. I realized that they were portraying him as a sort of communist, and they compared him to Hitler, Stalin, and Fidel Castro. I would have never guessed he was an anti-hero. Humberto Fontova, the author of Exposing the Real Che Guevara, mentioned that he played a vital role in helping Fidel Castro rise to power. They talked about him by taking serious things that he did and made them sound like they were the worst things anyone could have done. That definitely swayed my opinion towards him. I didn't find out exactly who he was, but I inferred from the video that he might not be the best person to lead a country.
